Latvia is gradually moving to structured e-invoices: they are already mandatory for transactions with public institutions (B2G), and legislation extends the requirement step by step to business-to-business transactions. Exact deadlines are set by amendments to the Accounting Law — follow VID updates.
E-invoice vs PDF
A structured e-invoice is a machine-readable XML document (EN 16931 / Peppol) processed automatically by accounting systems. A PDF invoice remains the most convenient format for clients — especially private persons and small businesses.
What to do now
- keep invoice data clean: sequential numbering, full details, correct VAT — the same data feeds e-invoices;
- use the eAdrese / Latvija.gov.lv channel for public-sector clients;
- use this generator day to day — invoices are stored in your account, ready for the e-invoicing transition.
